Thoughts Are Things from Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Thoughts Are Things is the first chapter in the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. The first sentence of the book is:

Truly, "thoughts are things," and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches, or other material objects."

This truth forms the basic foundation of all of Napoleon Hill writings and recordings. Working closely with Alexander Graham Bell, Hill learned first hand about transmitting words over the air using the telephone.

Once you understand and agree with Hill's concept, you can truly direct your thoughts to bring about what you want out of life. Remember also that Hill wrote about the 12 Riches of Life, and financial security was towards the bottom of the list.

Hill's major idea behind his work is that man is the only animal which God has given 100% control over its thinking. All other animals work from instinct. Not man. He can choose his thoughts and use them to build an incredible life. Since humans avergae around 50,000 thoughts per day, that is a lot of control. Once we control are thoughts and know that thoughts are things, we can purposefully build our life and results.

Proverbs 11:25 says

A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Based on the above, by controlling my thoughts and directing them towards encouraging, serving, and blessing others, I can choose the level of God's blessing in my life.

If someone analyzed the 50,000 thoughts you have every day, what would their analysis be? Would they see mostly negative or positive thoughts? Would they see purposeful, directed thinking aimed at a specific, worthy target that would benefit yourself as well as others?

If you direct your thoughts, and they align with what God created you to be, there is nothing that can stop you from achieving what you set out to.
