turning your life inside out!

I’ve struggled with this idea for most of my life; it seemed to define me and defined how my life was, and where it was going.  I felt like I was in a rut, and my only option was to keep moving forward even though circumstances weren’t improving.  I knew there had to be more!  I wanted life to be better!  I wanted more control and felt helpless when I kept getting knocked down.  The challenges; the obstacles that kept falling in front of me were relentless.  I felt like the unluckiest guy at times; when was I ever going to get a break and how much more I could take?  Why me?  Why can’t I have it easy?  Why does life have to be so hard?

"Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve." What if you read this each time you made a phone call, or texted, or received a call? Imagine the possibilities of auto-suggesting this into your mind hundreds of times per day.

Have you felt this way?  Do you look at others ‘flying by’ untouched, lucky, happy, and enjoying life!  There you are faced with the struggle of paying your bills, living paycheck to paycheck, and hanging on by a thread with your relationship or marriage, not happy, not healthy, and feeling defeated.  Sound familiar?

What if I can show you the keystone habit that will turn your life inside out?  What if I told you this idea can impact the rest of your day today, and every day moving forward?  This habit is not strenuous or difficult to do.  It doesn’t take a lot of time to adopt, but the impact it will have on every aspect of your life will be a game changer!  With all this stated, I want to make one thing very clear; this idea is not going to be easy – at least at first.  It’s not difficult or impossible, but it won’t be easy.  What do I mean?

George Bernard Shaw wrote, “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them.”

That’s it!  If you choose to follow this advice and adhere to the meaning of the 44 words written above, your life will be turned inside out for the better!

What is George Shaw saying, exactly?  Look at your life; look at your circumstances – all of them.  Some are good:  maybe you’re healthy, maybe you have a loving wife or husband, maybe your finances are right where you need them to be to feel safe and secure.  On the other hand, maybe one or more of the above are the opposite:  your marriage is struggling, your health is horrible, or your financial situation is disastrous.  The reality of your life is as it is, and you had a huge role in getting it to this point.  I’m not going to address how you are conditioned to be exactly where you are in life and why, but know that you can change it, and it begins with a new mindset, and that can happen in a heartbeat!  Napoleon Hill discusses this in Think and Grow Rich when he addresses Auto-Suggestion in Chapter 4, and The Subconscious Mind in Chapter 12. You have been conditioned over your lifetime, and your results are a reflection of that conditioning.  It will stay that way unless you decide to change it!  This quote by Shaw is the key to starting that process!

The question is, what if you don’t like your results? What are you going to do about it?  Are you going to take the position of a victim or a survivor?  The mindset of each is different, so choose carefully.  If you look at the definition of a victim, or a victim mentality, you will see traits such as blaming others, believing others are luckier in life than you, feeling sorry for oneself, eliciting pity or sympathy from others, frequently negative with a glass is always half empty mindset, defensive, helpless, guilty, shameful, hopeless and at times depressed.

On the other hand, a survivor often carries traits such as confidence, belief, faith, persistence, desire, zest, a positive outlook on life, not bothered by trivial things, accountable and responsible for their actions.  Often they will have a ‘can do’ attitude having already been tested or challenged with difficulty in life.  Each position elicits a drastically different result and what you choose to do will impact your life either positively or negatively.

I don’t know about you, but I have more confidence and feel empowered when I take on any situation in my life that’s affects me, my family, my business, etc.  I seem to walk with more assurance when I take on challenges head on.  I don’t make excuses, and I seek solutions, and I often come out on top!  That’s what this whole exercise is about.  That’s what Shaw’s quote is about.  Think winning, achieving, conquering life’s reality and pushing through the weeds to get to the other side.  This is what Shaw is telling us to do.

Look back over the last year of your life.  Look at circumstances you were faced with that didn’t go your way.  What was your mindset?  Were you in charge and making your own circumstances, or did you fall victim to circumstances and suffer the consequences of your choice?  What would your year have looked like if you had this keystone habit under control?  Would your year have been better? I bet you would be amazed!  A simple shift in mindset will have a dramatic impact in your life, more than you could ever imagine!

If your current mindset aligns with what I have been discussing, you know this is true and have experienced the value first hand.  If you have struggled with this idea like I have, and feel like your life is in a rut leading you to more of the same, I encourage you to take this concept and work to make it a new habit, a keystone habit in your life and watch what happens!
