Elizabeth is missing half her right arm and leg and requires a prosthetic leg to allow mobility.

She was raised with a positive attitude and firm self-belief that has taken her from strength to strength. With determination and a go-getter attitude, Elizabeth has achieved much in her life and is continuing to achieve, regardless of the obstacles and barriers she comes across.

At the age of thirteen, she decided that she was going to swim in the Paralympic games. She achieved this goal only three years later, competing at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, and then the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games. In all Elizabeth won three medals at the Paralympics, a bronze in the 50m Butterfly at the ’96 Paralympics, and a silver in the 400m Freestyle and a bronze in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay at her home games in 2000, as well as held multiple world records in both long and short course races.

After the Sydney Games Elizabeth Wright retired from swimming and embarked on an academic career, gaining her Bachelor and Masters degree in Fine Art. Elizabeth now lives in the UK where her work as a speaker and activist is propelling her to new achievements and new goals in inspiring and motivating in schools and business. Elizabeth focuses on motivating people to overcome obstacles and limiting beliefs in their own lives, providing her audiences with a framework that they too can follow to achieve goals.

Elizabeth has just written her autobiography – “Ditch the Arm, Keep the Leg – a personal story of success,” and she continues to challenge herself physically, having decided to walk across Spain next year in one go.

Testimonials for Elizabeth Wright

“Elizabeth spoke at our recent Opportunity Knocks Again event and was truly inspiring. Her story ... was delivered with passion, honesty and humour. To overcome the obstacles she has and achieve her dream of representing her country was inspirational and left everyone present in the audience with a sense of great achievement. I can absolutely recommend Elizabeth to speak at any event, she will inspire and leave people with a real “I Can” feeling, plus she has the medals to prove it. “

Paul Tolkin - The Leeds Jewish Welfare Board

"Absolutely fantastic. Elizabeth opened the eyes and minds of all our pupils. Her drive and desire to succeed should stand many in good stead to achieve their goals. I would highly recommend Elizabeth to talk to all ages to inspire for the future."

Nick Forbes - Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School

"Elizabeth was an inspiration.  Not only did she have a lovely manner with the children but she welcomed questions and answered them with patience and honesty.  The children thoroughly enjoyed her visit and were in awe of her achievements.  We would love for Elizabeth to visit us again and have already passed contact details to other interested schools.  Thank you."
