God is All-Powerful

Being part of the human family means we are limited to what we can do...that's why Jesus said: "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Mark 10:27

Biblical Snapshots of God's All-Powerful Nature

1. Elijan on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:1-39)

2. David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-37)

3. Daniel and the Lion's Den (Daniel 6:16, 19-23)

Two extremes when we don't see God as All-Powerful:

1. Arrogance

-Daniel 4:34b-35

At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.

His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”

2. Fearfulness

-2 Timothy 1:7

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

How to discover God's sustaining power in our every day lives:

1. God'ssustaining power for living is available through His Spirit.

-Ephesians 1:18-20

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,

2. God's sustaining power for living is available through God's Word.

Ephesians 1:17

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Ephesians 3:17-19

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge —that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

3. God's sustaining power for living is available through the prayers of the church.

Ephesians 6:18-20

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
