Heartland Church Pastor Joel Spiridigliozzi - A Hope Filled Heart

Heartland Church Pastor Joel Spiridigliozzi preached his Easter sermon titled A Hope Filled Heart. The sermon notes are below.

A Hope Filled Heart

Hope is 'confident expectation' or 'anticipation of good.'

Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all...As long as matters are really hopeful, hope is mere flattery or platitude; it is only when everything is hopeless that hope begins to be a strength.

John 11:25-26

"Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live..."

What Does Christ's Resurrection Mean For Us Today?

1. Jesus is Available and Accessible

a. Matthew 28:20

"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

b. Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?...No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2. Jesus Is Incomparable

a. A.W. Tozer: The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven't yet come to the end of themselves. We're still trying to give orders, and interfering with God's work within us.

b. Once you understand God's incomparable nature, your problems lose their dominance over you. They may not disappear - life is full of problems we can't avoid - but they won't control you.

c. Psalm 8:3-4

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

d. Gary Shiohama: "A very big God becomes small for our sake: God is big, but he made himself small enough to be born in a manger, small enough to fit on a cross, small enough to live in our hearts. And small enough to be with us in our struggles. I'm glad God is big enough to make himself small."

3. Jesus is Able to Roll Away the Stones of Our Lives

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
