Heartland Church Fuelled by Vision Series Part 6 - Value Based Vision
Heartland Church Pastor Joel Spiridigliozzi preached Part 6 of his sermon series based on the book of Nehemiah. The sermon was titled Value Based Vision. Below are the sermon notes.
Value Based Vision
Visionaries must establish and adhere to a set of core behaviors and beliefs.
Nehemiah's Value Based Vision
The leaders of the community knew that if God allowed the wall to be torn down once, He was not beyond allowing it to be torn down a second time so they developed a written covenant between themselves and God.
The covenant dealt with THREE SPECIFIC VALUES:
1. Their relationship with foreigners (10:30)
"We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to the peoples around us or take their daughters for our sons.
2. Their respect for the Sabbath (10:31)
“When the neighboring peoples bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year we will forgo working the land and will cancel all debts."
3. Their care of the temple (10:32)
“We assume the responsibility for carrying out the commands to give a third of a shekel[a] each year for the service of the house of our God:"
Nehemiah and his governing council were wise enough to recognize that time has a way of eroding the initial passion associated with a spiritual breakthrough.
Heartland Church's Value Based Vision
1. Connected to God (John 15:1-8)
2. Connected to Each Other (Acts 20:13-21:1/ 1 Corinthians 12:12ff)
A safe place where people can....
Know and be Known
Serve and be Served
Celebrate and be Celebrated
Love and be Loved
3. Connected to our Community and World (Acts 1:8/Matthew 5:13-16)
High Potency + Close Proximity + Clear Communication = Maximum Impact
The End of a God-Ordained Vision is God (Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 9)
When God intervenes, the attention shifts to Him. Divine intervention, when it is recognized, results in authentic worship and unquestioned obedience. This is God's ultimate agenda for the visions he has given you. He is at the end of visions He has authored.
"For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." (2 Chronicles 16:9a)
