The Napoleon Hill Leader Certication students did their presentations on one of the 17 Pricniples of Success identified by Napoleon Hill. I wrote notes in my journal during the presentations and will share them with you. Keep in mind that the presentations were each about 15 minutes and were mch more detailed than my notes. Some great audio visuals were used and where possible I have shared them.
Agnes Oberkor - Maintenance of Sound Health
According to Dr. Napoleon Hill, Sound Health means having the physical and emotional strength to carry out your Definite Major Purpose with Enthusiasm. It is a sense of well-being without dependence upon alcohol, stimulants or psychotropic tranquilizers. Having sound health results in an enjoyable and exciting way of living. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
There are seven main characteristics of Sound Health, which, include being:
1. Physically fit
2. Full of energy
3. Free of preventable physical ailments
4. Worry free
5. Enthusiastic about your labor of love
6. In possession of a Positive Mental Attitude
7. In possession of the Self-discipline not to smoke, over-eat or abuse alcohol
It is important to understand two main concepts in reference to the mind, body, and nature in order to get the greatest use of the body. That is the body and mind are one (body-mind) and the body-mind is one with nature. Nature moves in waves and rhythms. Nothing is static and so are humans. Learning to understand the waves and rhythms in our own life helps us to live a rhythmical life. That is work should be followed by play,
Seriousness should follow by humor, physical activity by mental activity, etc. to ensure harmony with the world.
The mind and the body are a complex whole influencing each other. The power of thinking allows humans to only conceive an idea and believe in it to achieve the idea. The mind has the higher function in the mind-body; therefore, physical limitations cannot stop a smoothly functioning mind from achieving anything
Having a definite major purpose in life with plans to achieve the purpose prevents fluctuations in efforts to maintain sound health. Mental tools needed to help and organize plans to achieve the purpose are Controlled attention, Self-discipline, Accurate thinking, Personal initiative, learning from defeat, Going the extra mile and Positive Mental Attitude, which is the most important single quality for sound mental health
The two greatest destructive forces of the human mind are fear and anxiety. Fear and anxiety are destructive forces because they kill enthusiasm, destroy faith, blind vision blunt creative efforts, and dispel harmony and peace of mind. Fear and anxiety produce unharmonious, irritated restlessness in the mind leading to:
1. Mental maladjustment
2. Serious diseases (e.g.. allergies, heart disease, etc.,) and even death
To maintain sound health, the six most dangerous fears of man, Fear of loss of money, Fear of ill health, Fear of loss of love, Fear of old age, Fear of death must be vanquished by replacing fear with understanding and faith. Because its environment and our thoughts are strongly influencing the mind, having a positive mental attitude is the best way to replace fear through autosuggestion.
Eating habits affect sound health. Understand the purpose of food as maintenance and good repair. Diet must be in balance with variety in food items. Never eat while angry, frightened, or worried. Food and alcohol must be consumed in moderation and always seek professional help if unable to control habits.
Relax by completely forgetting the problems and worries of the day. Select an object for relaxation, cultivate a variety of interest, practice controlled meditation, immerse yourself in a physical activity, practice short relaxation periods throughout the day, reading, listening to music, and solving crossword puzzles are good for the mind.
Sleep gives the body time to rebuild and revitalize for the next day. Six to eight hour of sleep, a night is good for the body. Because the subconscious mind continue to work while sleeping, wind down at the end of the day and do not work until you drop.
Exercise is beneficial to the body and great mental benefit. It is a mental and physical stimulant; it clears sluggishness, and teaches persistence and concentration. Aerobic exercise 20 minutes, three times a week keeps the heart and lungs strong.
In conclusion, sound health is not just annual check-up at the doctor’s office to find out if your heart is working right. Maintaining sound health is a state of complete freedom in the body and mind.
