Successful People do 12 major things differently than unsuccessful people.
1. They create and pursue S.M.A.R.T. goals
Specific - Measurable - Attainable - Realistic - Timeline
They also decide upon a Definite Major Purpose and align their goals with their Purpose.
2. They take decisive and immediate action
As W. Clement Stone said "Do It Now". In many cases, action is the key difference between successful people and unsuccessful people. Successful people do more which gives them greater odds of succeeding.
3. They focus on being productive, not being busy
Too many people confuse being busy with being productive. You are productive if you have moved closer to your goals and purpose that day. If you haven't, you have been busy but not productive.
4. They make logical, informed decisions
Informed decisions means speaking with people who have successfully achieved what you want. Too many times, we seek advice and wisdom from people who have no experience or success in what we want to achieve.
5. They avoid the trap of trying to make things perfect
People who aim for perfection often do not do very much. They are always planning and waiting for the right timing. My approach is 'ready - fire - aim' as opposed to 'ready - aim - fire'. I like to take action and adjust as I go.
6. They work outside of their comfort zone
To stretch yourself, use your skills, talents, and abilities to their max. Get outside your comfort zone to explore and discover yourself and life.
7. They keep things simple
Life is simple for people with a Definite Purpose, Positive Attitude and exciting Goals. Stay focused and keep things simple.
8. They focus on making small, continuous improvements
Earl Nightingale defined success as 'The progressive realization of worthwhile, pre-determined goals'. If you are making daily progress towards your Definite Purpose and Goals you will be happier and more successful.
9. They measure and track their progress
I count the number of times I exercise, the number of books I read, the number of days I open and read the Bible, the number of times I go to the gym and numerous other success metrics I have determined for myself. You have to measure and track your progress on a daily basis.
10. They maintain a positive outlook as they learn from mistakes
You will make mistakes in your life. None of us avoid them altogether. One of Napoleon Hill's Success Principles is Learning From Adversity and Defeat. Hill said that there is an equivalent or greater benefit in every adversity.
11. They spend time with the right people
As Charlie "Tremendous" Jones said "You will be the same person five years from now as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read". Spend time with people who love you. Spend time with people who make you a better person. Spend time with people making a positive difference in the world.
12. They maintain balance in their life
You cannot be a successful person if you are only successful with 2 or 3 areas of your life. You must be a complete person and have balance to achieve enduring success.
