The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn was published in 1925 and is one of the earliest New Thought books.
Judy Williamson, Education Director of The Napoleon Hill Foundation World Learning Center at Purdue University, Calumet campus wrote an article about the book in the Foundation's weekly Yesterday and Today ezine and so I purchased and read it.
I love old books because of the old fashioned writing. It forces me to read slower than my usual speed reading pace.
Here are some of the things I underlined in my copy of the book.
"Man can only receive what he sees himself receiving."
"Owing to the vibratory power of words, whatever man voices, he begins to attract. People who continually speak of disease, invariably attract it."
"Personality is one of the last enemies to be overcome, as this planet is taking its initiative in love."
"...if one blesses a man he has no power to harm him."
"When there is, in him, no emotional response to an inharmonious situation, it fades away forever, from his pathway."
"It is so much easier for the average person to have fear than faith; so faith is an effort of the will."
"Man's highest demand is for the Divine Design of his life."
"Man should make an art of thinking. The Master Thinker is an artist and is careful to paint only the divine designs upon the canvass of his mind; and he paints these pictures with masterly strokes of power and decision, having perfect faith that there is no power to mar their perfection and that they shall manifest in his life the ideal made real.
The world's most celebrated "success" book and guide on how to "WIN" in life through positive attitudes and affirmations.
First published in 1925, this book has inspired thousands of people around the world to find a sense of purpose and belonging. It asserts that life is not a battle but a game of giving and receiving, and that whatever we send out into the world will eventually be returned to us. This little book will help you discover how your mind and its imaging faculties play leading roles in the game of life.
With her classic book, THE GAME OF LIFE AND HOW TO PLAY IT, Florence Scovel Shinn established herself as one of the most down-to-earth, practical, and helpful prosperity writers of her era. With a timeless message and the ability to explain success principles and how they work in an entertaining style, her writings are still considered the leaders in prosperity literature today.
